Art Mill lies in the heart of Central Europe, in the Bohemian countryside, on a lake, in the Czech Republic. The school is surrounded by agricultural land, and rolling hills. American artist Barbara Benish, with her Czech-architect husband Petr Kalny, are slowly renovating the 500-year-old Mill with it’s surrounding grounds, and opening it up for youth during the summer months. Focusing on children ages 6-12, and youth to age 16, the summer camp offers a wide variety of classes in Art, Music, Languages, and Dance, as well as Horseback riding, Swimming, and Hiking. Fresh food from the garden and fields give the students lunch each day, as well as providing first hand experience in Agriculture, Herbal Lore and Crafts, and Organic Cooking. As the Mill is “green”, we pass on this environmental awareness in every hour of the day at Cerveny Mlyn ("Red Mill", in English). Children have a chance to participate in a working farm, collecting eggs from the chickens or milking the goat, and play with the other animals that live there also: sheep, ponies, doves, dogs, cats and, of course, rabbits.
